Recently, six packages were recognized for exceptional innovation in flexible packaging at the Flexible Packaging Association’s annual competition. One company earned the Highest Achievement Award, while five others took Gold Awards in categories including sustainability, technical innovation, packaging excellence, printing & shelf impact, etc. Who were the winners?
The “best of the best” and Highest Achievement Award went to Campbell Soup Ready Meals retort pouch, described as a pouch and a bowl and created by Bemis Co. Consumers simply heat the package in the microwave, then an easy-open tear converts the pouch into a bowl.
Who were the five who took Gold Awards?
Frito-Lay’s/Lay’s Summer Promotion by Emerald Packaging, where customers were invited to submit photos for snack bags which were digitally printed, then supplied with a unique barcode so that customers received their own personalized package. This one won a Gold Award for Printing & Shelf Impact! Others included:
- Premium rice bag for Kohinoor, an anti-slip bag developed by Flex Films took a Gold Award for both Packaging Excellence & Printing/Shelf Impact
- Dispos-a-vent barrier pouch by Oliver-Tolas Healthcare Packaging won the Gold Award for Technical Innovation
- The Fresh N Tasty Bakery 12-Count Cookie Pouch by Robbie Manufacturing was the recipient of the Gold Award in Sustainability
- Now you can enjoy a dollop of sour cream by simply squeezing what appears to be a stand-up tube, but is instead a wedge-shaped, inverted pouch with the new Daisy Brand Sour Cream Squeezable Pouch by Sonoco Flexible Packaging, given the Gold Award for Technical Innovation
