The largest manufacturer of cross-laminated timber in the eastern U.S. is almost fully operational, according to recent news reports that say International Beams‘ Dothan, AL CLT manufacturing plant currently employs 25 people but will employ 60 when the facility is fully operational in September.

Headquartered in Sarasota, FL International Beams is a leading manufacturer of laminated veneer lumber, CLT, I-Joists, rimboard and other premium quality engineered wood products. In June of 2017 IB began transforming a 227,000 sq. ft. General Electric building into a highly specialized cross-laminated timber producing facility.

Technicians are currently in the process of becoming familiar with the machines in the wood grading component that’s been installed, a portion of the main production area. According to Bruno Lebel, owner at International Beams, the company expects to install a second portion of the facility’s main production line by June; which is coming from overseas. Lebel said the manufacturing plant would be the first in the world to manufacture both cross-laminated timber and glue laminate wood.

Southern pine lumber will be used to construct the CLT panels, which will primarily be sold in the U.S. market. Ultimately the Dothan IB facility will result in about 200 employment opportunities as jobs will be created in the sawmill, local timber and trucking industries.
