Angelina Forest Products, LLC recently announced plans to build a new lumber facility located in Lufkin, TX. According to news reports the company intends to build a $100 million state-of-the-art sawmill at the former General Electric Buck Creek site over the summer season which will hopefully be fully operational at some point during the 2nd quarter of next year.
Executive VP Stephen Raley stated that Lufkin is the best location for the new sawmill, and that Angelina Forest Products is proud to construct the softwood lumber production plant in Angelina County due to the existing work force who are talented and familiar/experienced with the industry. Once the facility is complete, it anticipates providing 100 people with full-time employment. Trent Ashby, State Representative said that this is wonderful news in a region that remains heavily dependent on a strong forest and wood products industry.
The new sawmill anticipates receiving about 600 log trucks each week from timber owners within 100 miles of the facility, and will focus on Southern Yellow Pine lumber in its full product line. Expecting to produce more than 220 million board feet each year, the company says it will ship 200 truckloads of finished product across the East Texas area and other parts of the U.S. on a weekly basis.
The sawmill will create quality, long-term jobs but will also help stimulate the economy as its operation will expand the need for workers in the forest, transportation and other industries.
