Recently it was announced that Woburn, MA-based Atlantic Plywood Corp. has been purchased by Parksite Inc., based in Batavia, IL. Atlantic Plywood distributes industrial wood products across the Northeastern U.S. according to news reports and will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Parksite. Parksite Inc. is a building materials supplier distributing lumber, siding, decking, roofing and other products to dealers and fabricators in the U.S. residential and commercial construction and remodeling markets.
While financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, Parksite CEO Ron Heitzman said combining the two companies would allow Parksite to provide customers in the Northeast an unmatched resource in the market in terms of delivering specialty building materials, industrial wood products, premium surfacing materials and other product solutions from a single source. Atlantic Plywood and Parksite are employee-owned organizations.
Heitzman said the fact that Atlantic Plywood is also employee-owned played a part in the acquisition, as the joining of the two companies would drive value and deliver unsurpassed service to suppliers, customers and shareholders. Paul Vella, President at Atlantic Plywood agreed that bringing two ESOP companies together was key in the decision-making process, and that because the two share an industry in adjacent categories the future will be very intriguing given the opportunity for industry crossover.
Atlantic Plywood was founded in 1974 and has more than 200 employees at branches throughout the Northeast U.S. including NJ, NY, ME, VT, CT, RI and MA.
