Lumber Marking – Weyerhaeuser Distributing Sound-Deadening Boards

MLT CreativeIndustry News

Days prior to Christmas, it was announced that Weyerhaeuser Distribution had expanded the distribution of the company’s Homasote 440 SoundBarrier panels to additional distribution centers, after having increasing success with the boards, particularly in high-density housing markets. Based in Seattle, Weyerhaeuser is one of the largest private owners of timberlands in the world.

The 440 SoundBarrier boards are resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew, and protect against rot, fungi, and termites; manufactured of 98% recycled product, according to reports. The special-density, structural board offers twice the R-value of wood and is made solely of Homasote cellulose fiber, providing insulation properties, as well as sound control.

Weyerhaeuser had success over the past several years with its Homasote product in distribution centers in California, including Fontana, Stockton, Fresno, and Santa Clarita, along with a Boise, ID center. The forest products company has now expanded its distribution to centers in Tacoma, Denver, Dallas, and Houston.

Vice President of Weyerhaeuser Distribution, David Helmers, said that, for builders who work in the multi-family housing market, the 440 SoundBarrier panels are a great asset, as they work to control sound in walls, ceilings and floors. Helmers said the company feels Texas, Colorado, and Washington are ideal markets to expand into because of the product’s good fit for high-density housing markets.

The boards are available in a variety of sizes and can be directly applied to framing; they’re also an exceptional alternative to gypsum for walls and floors, and lightweight, according to reports.
